As part of the awakening of the United States to its history of discrimination, the Board of Directors of the Forest Hill Home Owners Association (FHHO) acknowledges that, in its origins and early history, Forest Hill developers practiced a subtle form of discrimination encompassing classism, racism and anti-Semitism.  In pursuit of its principal objective of preserving the high standards of an upper middle-class residential community, the developers, initially Abeyton Realty Corporation (John D. Rockefeller, Jr.) and in 1948, a real estate syndicate led by George Roose, used deed restrictions, covenants and standards to maintain an exclusive community.  FHHO, founded in 1950 as the successor and guarantor of the Rockefeller plan, maintained aspects of those discriminatory practices until the passage of the Fair Housing Act of 1968.

While acknowledging this all too common past, Forest Hill today is a community of diverse races, religions, cultures, age groups and gender identities.  We celebrate and encourage this diversity and FHHO commits to furthering it through a two-prong approach: support residents who seek to improve and preserve their homes through technical and resource assistance; and community-building through educational and social events.
